The Minister of Finance will attend the EBRD meeting
The personal annual meeting is held for the first time in three years. Representatives of 73 banking countries and institutional shareholders will meet between May 10 and 12 in Marrakesh, Morocco.
Nebati is expected to conduct bilateral talks on the sidelines of the event. The Minister and the Turkish delegation will also be present to inform about the state of the Turkish economy and the policy of the Turkish government.
The ongoing war in Ukraine, which follows Russia’s three-month invasion, will dominate the annual meeting in Marrakesh, the EBRD said in a statement. Shareholders will discuss how they can best support the bank’s response to Ukraine and other operating countries facing an influx of millions of refugees.
The “Meeting the Challenges of a Turbulent World” meeting will also consider a broader picture of the economy with rising inflation and concerns about energy and food security, the statement added. .
About 1,500 people are expected to attend the annual meeting in person, and others will attend the meeting online. This is the first physical meeting since Sarajevo in 2019, as the COVID pandemic has forced the events of 2020 and 2021 to be fully virtual.
The EBRD operates 38 economies from Central Europe to Central Asia and the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (including North Africa). The bank is considering expanding its geographical coverage to sub-Saharan Africa and Iraq. Whether to take the first step towards this opportunity, shareholders will consider in a discussion on May 12
