The third economic zone of Meghna got the final certificate

Comilla Economic Zone owned by Meghna Group of Industries has got the final license or certificate as the 12th private economic zone in the country. The Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) officially handed over the final certificate of the economic zone to the Meghna Group at Hotel Intercontinental in the capital on Sunday.

Bejar Executive Chairman Sheikh Yusuf Harun presided over the function. The chief guest was the senior secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office. Tofazzal Hossain Mia. Also present on the occasion were Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) Executive Chairman Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, BEZAR Executive Member Ali Ahsan, Meghna Group Chairman Mostafa Kamal, and officials of various government departments, business, and financial institutions. Sheikh Yusuf Harun, Executive Chairman of Bejar, handed over the final certificate to Mostafa Kamal, Chairman of Meghna Group.

Senior Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office. Tofazzal Hossain Mia said that economic zones are a game-changer for increasing investment in Bangladesh. The launch of a new economic zone means new employment, new foreign investment, and all-new industrial initiatives. The registration of the Comilla Economic Zone has opened new doors for investment in the region.

It was informed on the occasion that Comilla Economic Zone has been set up on 247 acres of land along the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Meghna Upazila of Comilla. Bejar plans to expand it to 350 acres later. Authorities plan to allocate about 50 percent of the land in the economic zone to foreign investors.
Sheikh Yusuf Harun, executive chairman of Bejar, thinks that the Comilla Economic Zone will be a great response to local and foreign entrepreneurs as it is close to Dhaka and adjacent to the Dhaka-Chittagong highway. “We expect 200 billion to be invested in this economic zone in the next five years,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Meghna Group Chairman Mostafa Kamal said, “We have already set up 33 industries in our two economic zones. Of which 12 are foreign companies. The products of these factories are being exported to 25 countries of the world. About 25,000 people have been directly employed. More than 60 industries will be set up in the new economic zone of Comilla. And employment will be about 50 thousand people. There will be 116 commercial plots in this economic zone.

The Comilla Economic Zone is the third economic zone of the Meghna Group. Earlier, Meghna Group had set up two separate economic zones at Sonargaon in Narayanganj.
