Shariatpur lags behind for 27km road: Deputy Water Resources Minister

Deputy Minister of Water Resources and Member of Parliament for Shariatpur-2 constituency AKM Enamul Haque Shamim commented that the 27 km connecting road from the Naodoba end of Jajira in Shariatpur to the district town of Padma Bridge should have been done earlier.

Enamul Haque Shamim said in an event at Bangmata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Auditorium of National Museum in Shahbagh of the capital on Tuesday afternoon, “When the construction of Padma Bridge started, when the Madaripur road started, that road should have been built (2010). Since we were in power, we will not blame anyone. For whatever reason, this was not undertaken. If it is said that Shariatpur is lagging behind for this road, it will be very difficult for us. God willing, we will be able to complete most of this road before the election.

Enamul Haque was the chief guest at the program titled ‘Nabinvaran, Kriti Samvardhana and Cultural Program-2022’ organized by Kirtinasha, an organization of Shariatpur district students studying in Dhaka University.

In the event, Enamul Haque Shamim said, “Earlier it was necessary to understand that a four-lane road is needed to come from Padma Bridge to Shariatpur.” After becoming the Deputy Minister, on 24th March 2019, I gave the first DO letter for the construction of that road. Later in 2020 it was passed to Ekne. The tender for that road has been done Land acquisition is taking some time.’

Highlighting various initiatives for the development of Shariatpur, the Deputy Minister of Water Resources said, “The issue of Shariatpur’s Sheikh Hasina Agricultural University will go to the Cabinet this month, and then it will go to the Parliament.” Insha Allah, I will lay the foundation stone of that university with the Hon’ble Prime Minister in Shariatpur in December this year. Even if it is an agricultural university, all the faculties and departments of the general university will be there. We are making the sub-centre with the aim that Shariatpur should not have a shortage of electricity in the next 50 years.
At this time, the Deputy Minister said to the students, ‘You will study. It should be kept in mind that studies should not be destroyed again in Kirtinasha. Tell us about any pros and cons. You are the future generation, you will lead the future Shariatpur.
