Sources of Dhaka Palli Vidyut Samiti-3 and its Dhamrai regional office have informed that in the last 24 hours (until 6:00 p.m. on Monday), load shedding was given in three rounds for three and a half hours and in four rounds for four and a half hours in the areas outside the municipality. Apart from this, there has been load shedding for six hours in five to six rounds in the Savar municipal area and its surrounding areas.

Dhamrai regional office officials said that the supply of electricity is less than the demand. At seven o’clock yesterday evening, the demand was 70 megawatts of electricity. On the other hand, the electricity received is 54 MW. At 11 am today, the demand was 74 MW but the supply was 54 MW. Dhamrai Regional Office Deputy General Manager (DGM) Al Mahmud Faisal told Prothom Alo, “We have nothing to do if there is a shortage of electricity supply.” Loadshedding is being forced due to non-availability of electricity compared to the requirement.

Meanwhile, the municipal area of Savar in Savar Upazila and surrounding areas are supplied with electricity from Shimultala Regional Office, Police Town Substation, Jahangirnagar, Rajashan Substation and Dhaka Palli Vidyut Samiti-1 under the jurisdiction of Dhaka Palli Vidyut Samiti-3.

Officials of Dhaka Palli Vidyut Samiti-1 said that electricity is supplied from here to various areas of Ashulia police station of Savar and some parts of Savar along with other areas outside Savar upazila. Their demand for electricity was 365 megawatts around 3:00 p.m. today, Monday. However, the supply at that time was 241 MW.

Mehdi Hasan, a resident of Khagan area of Savar’s Birulia Union, told Prothom Alo, “There has been load shedding four times throughout the day today. There was no electricity for more than an hour each time. It is hot, in the meantime, life is getting tired due to the pain of load shedding.

General Manager (GM) of Dhaka Palli Vidyut Samiti-3 Mollah Md. Abul Kalam Azad told Prothom Alo that uninterrupted power supply in Savar as an industrial area is always viewed with importance. The current situation and requirement is also being informed to the higher authorities and electricity is being supplied with utmost importance. However, there is a shortage of about 80 to 85 MW of electricity every day. Therefore, the power supply has to be coordinated with area-wise load shedding.
